The AWO works alongside the Animal Ethics group, and has key responsibilities around laboratory animal management, medicine and animal welfare. These include:
- Clinical advice and experimental protocol review.
- Inspection of animal facilities, and support for animal facility staff.
- Monitoring of research work involving live animals.
- Developing policies and educational resource materials, including running the Annual Program in Laboratory Animal Science and Animal Welfare.
