Import Permits
An import permit allows the importation of goods that are subject to quarantine. Import permits sometimes contain post-entry conditions which may include restriction of the goods to Quarantine Approved Premises (QAPs).
Application process
- Check whether an Import Permit is required by searching the AQIS import conditions database (ICON). ICON lists the import conditions for thousands of commodities. As the database is updated regularly, it is important to check status prior to each planned importation.
- If an Import Permit is required, you will need to complete the appropriate application form. Refer to the AQIS Guide to Selecting the Correct Import Application Form and follow the links to download the correct application form.

You will be issued with an Import Permit which will stipulate specific conditions affecting the imported goods. Make sure that the description of the goods on the import permit matches that of the goods you plan to import. Report any discrepancies to AQIS immediately to avoid problems at the time of importation.
