How to Obtain Human Research Ethics Approval
This one hour seminar for academics and student researchers is conducted by the Melbourne Research Office early each semester. It covers University policy and national guidelines, what ethics committees look for, researcher obligations, submitting applications using the Themis Research Management System, and where to get help.
Human Research Ethics for New Researchers
A two hour workshop offered to graduate researchers early each semester through the Melbourne School of Graduate Research UpSkills Program. The workshop covers University policy and national guidelines relating to human research ethics, what ethics committees look for, issues related to vulnerable populations, informed consent, dependent relationships, and confidentiality. The session also includes an ethical review activity and guidance on how to submit an ethics application using the Themis Research Management System.
Committee member and administrator training
Regular training is provided for members and chairs of ethics committees and ethics advisory groups, and for ethics administrators. Customised training can also be arranged for individual schools, faculties and departments upon request. Contact the Human Ethics office for details.
