Commercialisation policy

>> Flow-chart of the commercialisation process (pdf, 21kb)

The University will deal expeditiously, expertly and thoroughly with opportunities to commercialise the IP in which it asserts rights, and in so doing, seek full value for creators, the University and the wider community. Where the decision is made to proceed with the protection or commercialisation of IP, creators (including students) will have the opportunity to participate in processes associated with the protection and commercial exploitation of IP that they have helped to create and to share in the net commercial proceeds. There are a variety of pathways to commercialisation and numerous steps involved in the process. Successful managing and exploiting of IP requires commitment and diligence from all those involved.

Should the University decide in a particular case not to proceed with the protection or commercialisation of IP, it must, unless the Vice-Chancellor has determined that to do so would not be in the interests of all creators, give the creators themselves the opportunity to seek funding and commercial participants (see section 15.4 of the Intellectual Property Principles).
