University of Melbourne (UoM) schemes
In consultation with faculties and other stakeholders the current suite of internal grant schemes has been reviewed. This has resulted in some schemes being merged and others being discontinued in 2009. In the case of international grants, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Global Relations) are reviewing how funds can be utilised to enhance strategic international research partnerships.

| Early Career Researcher Grants | Supports early career researchers in undertaking high quality projects and pilots, developing track records and competing for external funding. |
| Melbourne Research Fellowship (Career Interruptions) Program | Enables researchers to enhance or re-establish their academic research careers where they have been severely interrupted, delayed or otherwise constrained by chronic illness, child bearing, child rearing or other caring duties. |
| Research Collaboration Grants | Enables researchers to develop links with industry, which will later assist in the preparation of applying for ARC Linkage grant applications. |
| Rhodes Scholars in Australia Scholarships | Scholarship for an overseas Commonwealth research higher degree student to come to Australia for six months to twelve months to consult with leading scholars in their research area and undertake research in Australia relevant to their thesis project. |
| Staff Equity Research Fellowship Program | Assists academic and professional University staff in completing doctoral qualifications which have been interrupted as a result of equity factors such as significant family or carer responsibilities, disability or serious medical condition, or racial or cultural background. |
| Woodward Medals | Two medals are presented to staff at the University, with the support of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor. |
| Interdisciplinary Seed Funding | An internal scheme to support interdisciplinary research collaboration activities that will benefit from short-term seed-funding. |
| McKenzie Fellowships | An internal fellowship program aimed to attract outstanding recent doctoral graduates in areas of research priority for the university and its faculties, and in particular to recruit new researchers who have the potential to build and lead cross-disciplinary collaborative research activities inside and across faculties. |
| Broadband Enabled Society Project Seed Funding | IBES is a cross-disciplinary research institute at the University of Melbourne dedicated to researching products, services, and innovations that maximize the benefit of new broadband technologies to Australian society. |
